The Science Framework For Biology - 930 Words

Sequencing Rationale The 2010 Mississippi Science Framework for Biology consists of the application scientific methods of inquiry and research in the examination of the chemical basis of life, cell structure, function and reproduction, energy, natural selection and diversity, and ecology. In order to fully understand the basic concept reproduction, natural selection, and diversity, students must understand the all aspects of genetics and inheritance. Consequently, since there are numerous issues today relating to genetics and inheritances, I want to introduce this subject to students and allow them the opportunity to learn more about it. Learning about genetics and inheritance will allow students to recognize that heredity is an important and ever-changing issue that will affect them in various ways in the future. This unit specifically will increase their knowledge to know which traits are inherited; therefore, it is extremely important to teach these concepts. Furthermore, this unit will contain activi ties that require students to expound upon prior knowledge and use higher order thinking skills which can prepare students for the kinds of problems or concerns they may encounter in the future. I believe that the concept related sequencing pattern would work best for many of the concepts associated with the science curriculum. Therefore, I will use the concept-related pattern of sophistication for this unit because it requires the least complex concept, DNA, to be taughtShow MoreRelatedNon Intrusive Treatment For Medical Science1289 Words   |  6 PagesScience (BS) Pre-Dental A Bachelor of Science in Biology, concentrating on the pre-proficient track, gets ready understudies for acknowledgment into dental school. The definition of science is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe. An older term of science refers to a body of knowledge itself, of anything that can be successfully applied to a situation. Someone who practices science is known as a scientist. Modern science has been traced back to the early modern period and in particular to theRead MoreThe Case Of Epperson V. Arkansas953 Words   |  4 Pagesanimal.† Forty years lat er, the case of Epperson v. Arkansas (1968) was argued before the Supreme Court. The case originated in 1965, when Susan Epperson was hired to teach 10th grade biology at Little Rock Central High School. The local school board had recently adopted, as a part of an approved curriculum, a new biology textbook that included a section on evolution. Immediately, Epperson recognised her dilemma; that to teach the required curriculum would put her at risk for dismissal under the â€Å"anti-evolution†Read MoreShould We Learn About It?852 Words   |  4 Pagesthat require students to employ critical and higher order thinking skills; I believe these skills can prepare students for the kinds of issues they may encounter in the world in the future.
